UNCC Uber Technologies

Question: Discuss about theUNCC for Uber Technologies. Answer: Introduction The current discourse attempts to present itself as an editorial piece by relating the ethical issues in business operations of an emerging organization and thereafter by relating it with the principle thoughts of catholic fundamentalisms. Hence, the assignment will rest on two potential aspects, one that will illustrate the business ventures of a selected organization and the later one will be to connect the activities of that business enterprise with the rudimentary principles of the social teaching system of Catholicism. For this distinct purpose, this literary attempt has considered the organization of Uber Technologies. Uber is an emerging international organization for transportation network, which is headquartered in San Francisco of California, USA. The enterprise is gaining rapid appraisals worldwide and spreading its wings in the sky of international business due to having the innovative idea of giving opportunities of trip request in affordable price to the citizens. Most importantly, the entire business operations of Uber now values for near about $70 billion and is known to operate in more than 526 cities of 68 countries across the globe (uber.com, 2016). It is an unfortunate fact that the company has been alleged several times for pursuing illegal activities such as using drivers who do not possess licensed taxicabs and leadership controversies (huffingtonpost.in, 2016). It is a fact of disappointment that Uber which is growing in a fast pace than the eBay is holding illegal and unethical activities to triumph over the competition. The allegation for this particular matter is pointing towards the prolonged controversial leadership issue of the enterprise. It is even a fact of astonishment that the managerial authorities of Uber have been caught several times in revealing shady tactics for stamping out their potential rival companies (fortune.com, 2014). According Travis Kalanick, the CEO of Uber, the company holds crucial strategies to dominate its greates competitor Lyft in terms of grabbing the support from the investors. Therefore, it is an understandable fact that the rumours against Uber that the company frequently under covers rides of Lyft and even manipulate drivers of Lyft to tie up their knot with Uber. According to several reports made by Fortune, most of the customer complaints against Uber are indicative of the misleading activities of Uber drivers regarding quality check. On the other hand, based on the airport authority and tourists account, most of the Uber drivers give service to the airports without having authorised permission (Dierksmeier et al. 2016). The decision to enforce lawsuit to make a full stop to their acts of misconduct and illegal business operation, seems to be a necessary initiative taken by the district attorneys. The question now arises whether the lawsuit will be potential enough to clear up the sustained ethical conundrum or not. In this respect, the fundamental principles of age-old catholic social teaching can be considered in that context where the discussion is about the ethical and illegal affairs of Uber. Catholic social teaching whose major doctrines are largely influenced by the Biblical interpretations focus on three particular aspects dignity, subsidiary and human solidarity (Berry 2013). In other words, the basic propositions of the catholic social teaching depends on seven premises respect or giving value, prioritise family values, protection of property rights, work for the public welfare, observation of the Subsidiarity, pursue peace and respect duty or work (Dann and Dann 2016). Therefore, it seems that catholic teaching is an apt process to staple aspects of human rights in the minds of individuals. As propagated by Pope John Paul II, teaching doctrines of Catholicism is valuable in a convenient system to input the values of humanity in the minds of the common (Sison et al. 2016). Considering the basic conventions of the Catholic Social Teaching, it seems that the business operations of Uber have seriously offended the principle foundations of Catholicism. Here, the argument can arise about the connection between catholic principles and the activities of Uber. The very first aspect offended by the Uber management in terms of biblical catholic foundations is, they have neglected the value of human rights by misguiding the customers and by provoking the minds of the drivers of Lyft. Furthermore, the repetitive act of negligence and outrageousness of the drivers and the management implies that the principle of working for the welfare of the common individuals. In terms of responsibility and giving respect to own work, it seems that the management and employees have lost the ability to give proper honour to that also. Being concerned about the negative approach of Uber, it would be probably easy to recommend Uber authorities to revise the catholic principles and rectify their business activities. However, such an idea would not qualify, as it sounds less convenient. Nevertheless, the Uber authorities could atleast think about remodelling their work culture and tactics by obliging the seven key principles of catholic teaching to wash off all the controversies.
